Introduction by the Artist

The Art of Quilting

The traditional art of quilt-making has always allowed self-expression through the use of fabric. My quilts reflect my interest in my foremothers’ quilting legacy and our contemporary desire to make our homes as beautiful as they are warm and functional. Many of my pieces can be hung as wall art or used as lap quilts or sofa throws, offering a dual purpose of beauty and functionality which appeals to me.  For me, creating a quilt is about the process, the journey, and the finished piece is almost cathartic – as if I have purged myself of the desire to create that particular design.

Craft 4 Crafters Show at Westpoint, Exeter

Thursday  2nd to Saturday 4th February 2012

I have been asked to have a stand at the show to help represent quilting - the organisers tell me that it is an increasingly popular hobby and visitors to their shows have requested that it plays a larger part. So, ever happy to oblige! I will be there, exhibiting some of my work, talking to people and demonstrating various techniques. If you visit the show, look out for me in the quilting section, my stand will be called ‘The Art of Quilting’. For more details, click here.

Radstock Museum near Bath - Quilt Exhibition

February 1st to May 31st 2012

This is the third major exhibition staged by Midsomer Quilting and will feature 225 quilts, not only from celebrated contemporary quilt artists (and me!) but also some fascinating historical pieces.  This is the first year I have been involved but from what I hear, this is a wonderful event and people come from far and wide to see it ! There will also be a chance to see the top 15 mini quilts from MQs recent ‘Fruit’ challenge competition held to raise funds for the children’s cancer charity, CLIC. I was absolutely gob-smacked to learn that my entry was one of them so thanks to all the visitors to MQ who voted for me.
